Halo has a director.. a new comer!

August 12, 2006 at 10:50 am (Games, Media)

Halo2 (6)Halo has finally got a director, and no as everyone knows by now Uwe Bowl (Alone in the Dark, Blood Rayne and other Game-to-Movies flops) has been put on leash as not to even approach near the Halo script. Then it was rumored Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings, King Kong) is involved, but he turned out to be the Executive Producer under which the Director will work. And now finally we have our director, its Neill Blomkamp who will be making Halo as his debut full feature film.

Blomkamp, a native of South Africa, is likely best known for his direction of an episode of Dark Angel and his 2005 short film Alive in Joburg, a movie about extraterrestrials becoming refugees on earth.

The director has received a number of awards including three Clio Awards, an Emmy nomination and being named one of the top five directors to watch at the First Board Awards.

So, we do expect to see some great new ideas from this director who already has some hands-on with E.T. But I don’t know he can take the pressure of working with such big names as Peter Jackson, Danziel Washington (Master Chief, Actor), Universal Studios, Fox Studios and above all Microsoft.

Still unsure whether this director has all the right stuff, check his E.T. film. Just don’t be too critical this was a short film with no King Kong budget for special effects.

August 12, 2006 at 9:20 am (Politics)

And in the breaking news…

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has accepted an emerging Mideast cease-fire deal and informed the United States of his decision, Israeli officials said Friday.

Olmert will recommend that his government approve the deal in its meeting on Sunday, the officials said on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to brief journalists on the internal discussions.

It was not immediately clear whether Israel’s expanded ground offensive would be frozen. Defense officials said it appeared the campaign would be halted.

Do Evil, But Pick the right victim

August 12, 2006 at 9:17 am (Humor)

Do No Evil… but be sure to pick the right victims or incidents accidents like this can happen to you:

  • Some Burglars were having a bad day when they picked the wrong house to rob. According to police, once the burglars were inside, they got into a fight with one of the residents who grabbed his roommates sword and started slashing the intruders. His feisty attack send the invaders running, but not before he wounded several. They’ll be transported to the Hennepin County Jail when they are released by the hospital. More…
  • And if you are planning to cheat on your wife or girlfriend in near future, then beware that isn’t this woman (or any other women like this). This is probably just some AD for CourtTV but its damn serious (for the poor guy in video) and hilarious (for us) and a FINE warning (for the cheaters):

Finger football

August 12, 2006 at 6:05 am (Humor, Media)

thingI always adored “Thing” in Adams Family (the floating hand). It could express emotions with only fine gestures, and had more brains than anyone in the family with “actual” brains.

If anything comes close to a that “Thing” is this guy Dave B. He has got finger skills to show off. Just watch the following video I stumbled upon. He plays soccer, perform flashy moves and impress the ladies all by his hands. Pretty cool!

Saudi Arab to go Democratic

August 12, 2006 at 5:49 am (News, Politics)

Saudi Arab is still a kingdom ruled by kings, where sons of king inherit the kingdom, It has been this way from the times after The Bedouin states were joined to form a whole “United Saudi Arab (USA???)”. But is that all about to change now?

AlSaudPrince Talal Mohammad al-Rashid is son of the last ruler of the independent Rashidi emirate, which reigned in the northwestern region of Hail from 1835 to 1921. He said on 8th August 2006: “We announce the birth of the Saudi Democratic Opposition Front, which will struggle by peaceful means for the establishment of democracy in the country.”

“The Al-Saud (family ruling Saudi Arabia) must either respect liberties and introduce democracy or give up the power they usurped,” Prince Talal, who has been living in exile in France since 1980, told AFP.

So, what else he aims to do, since he already has 2000 members in Saudi Arab and aims to launch a TV Channel in Europe too, to promote his cause. Does he honestly want democracy or just want to take hold of Ruler-ship powers of the Oil-rich kingdom? Whats your say!

WiFi Router with a half a PC built-in

August 12, 2006 at 5:41 am (Hardware)

AsusWirelessRouterTo some a router is just a router… and to be honest that is true. But Asus has proved that it can be more. The latest offering from Asus the WL-700ge WiFi router has a built in network iTunes client, so it’ll show up as an iTunes client to your PCs. And it has a BitTorrent client that can rip down 7 streams automatically (and 10 FTP or web streams at the same time.) That’s with your PC off, all downloads handled by the router in its 160GB Harddrive.

It can act as a network storage device, UPnP/DLNA server for sharing music with compatible streaming devices, and can be turned into a RAID configuration with another drive, so you can have a backed up version of all your data. It can network USB printers, drives. Has 5 Ethernet ports. And encrypts in 64/128 bit WEP, WPA/WPA2 supports TKIP, AES, WPA, WPA2 and MAC. Good Lord, it has more features, than most of us can understand!!!

Israeli vs Palestine evils

August 12, 2006 at 5:38 am (Politics)

Although this article is from a Norwegian Newspaper dated 14th January 2006, but is very relevant in context to current events. It debates about Norway’s plan to boycott Israeli goods. In order to prove requirement and results of such a plan, the author gives some statistical analysis of why a ban is required to stop the violence that has been occurring in the region:

Whereas Palestinian suicide attacks targeting Israeli civilians have garnered much media attention, Israel’s quantitatively worse record of killing non-combatants is less well known. According to the most recent figures of the Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories (B’Tselem), 3,386 Palestinians have been killed since September 2000, of whom 1,008 were identified as combatants, as opposed to 992 Israelis killed, of whom 309 were combatants. This means that three times more Palestinians than Israelis have been killed and up to three times more Palestinian civilians than Israeli civilians.

Human Rights Watch estimated that “the number of Palestinians tortured or severely ill-treated” was “in the tens of thousands – a number that becomes especially significant when it is remembered that the universe of adult and adolescent male Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza is under three-quarters of one million.” In 1987 Israel became “the only country in the world to have effectively legalized torture” (Amnesty).

The article further proves the fact that morally a ban on Israeli goods is justified for crimes like demolition of more than 4000 Palestinenians homes and further breaches of Human rights. But article also raises questions as whether this was enough to hold down such a force?

3D Screensavers to Woo! your Co-workers

August 12, 2006 at 5:36 am (Internet, PC)

Screensavers are something everyone inevitably keeps.. I usually (all the time) keep “Blank” Screensaver at home. Its fast.. doesn’t eat too much of CPU, PC remains responsive and is overall good for monitors health. But in office I like to keep all the cool screensavers ON.. as most of people watch them when I am not on seat or busy in some manual work.. and thats the 2nd biggest purpose of screensavers, “woo-ing” your colleagues. (The first biggest purpose : saving the screen ofcourse).

In my search to find the next big office hit, I stumbled upon this site. This site has a collection of 3D Screensavers from different software houses. So, all this goodness in one space is what everyone requires. Although not freeware.. but you can get free trial download.. and can replace the screensaver with something even cooler before trial has expired.. Ahhhh!

Incase you ARE one of the co-workers I intend to woo! just don’t go here.. and don’t judge me! I am just human.
