Plug-n-Play Cricket

August 13, 2006 at 10:23 pm (Console, Games, Hardware)

PlugnPlayCricketCricket is very famous in England, South Asia and Australia and this product is targeted towards those regions ONLY. This plug-and-play cricket features realist bat and ball. Motion sensors detect the batsman’s swings and the bowler’s bowl. Apparently players must use the “proper” bowling motion for the action to register on the game. What’s more, the motion-sensitive ball is outfitted with a directional pad and three buttons that dictate spin!

Although I belong to region of cricket fanatics, who will just do anything to keep updated about this time consuming sport, yet I hate it. Yup! I am Anti-Cricket because of simple fact that it doesn’t pack much action and wastes 1~5 days just to finish one match. In such a world of fast paced things I don’t understand why people dont modify the rules of the game to keep up the pace.

Oh well! More about Plug-and-play cricket @ New Launches

UK policy boosting terrorism

August 13, 2006 at 6:31 pm (Politics)

Leading UK Muslims have united to tell Tony Blair that his foreign policy in Iraq and on Israel offers “ammunition to extremists” (i.e. boosts their anger) and puts British lives “at increased risk”.

The key figures who write this open letter included Muslim Council of Britain and several of the signatories, such as key Labor MPs Sadiq Khan (Tooting) and Shahid Malik (Dewsbury), whom it is believed can shape Muslim opinion.

The letter accuses UK’s foreign policy of lacking any policy to pay regard to civilian lives. Mr Khan told that Mr Blair’s reluctance to criticism Israel over the Lebanon attacks meant the pool of people from which terrorists found their recruits was increasing.

Repairing disconnected headphone wires

August 13, 2006 at 6:23 pm (Hardware)

Did it ever happen to you that some pet of yours ruined any of your property. Well its even worse when the pet is not yours. I own a Zling MP3 player, which came with really good pair of headphones. I was expecting some cheap model which I would had to replace but they were the best headphone I had ever got. And recently my brother pet parrot, chewed the wire and now I was getting mono sound.

In trying to rectify the broken wire connection.. I went on and on peeling on and on to get new bare wire from under the insulation… but the wire connections just didn’t make the magic happen. Until I finally cut of the jack and brought in a new one.

These (or any other normal) headphones have two wires for Left and Right speaker, and each wire contains further two wires, one is colored (live wire) and other is bare copper wire (ground). So, I just matched the colors and bare wires and hoped that would make it work… but it didn’t turn out that simple.

So, in my research I found that basically the color is insulating enamel on the wires, so if you just solder the colored wires, your are just connecting insulations and no real current can flow through this. So, trick is to scratch the enamel off (fire can melt the enamel pretty fast) and then solder the wires together. And there you have it, a fresh pair of .. mmmm! old repaired headphone ready :)

Eight myths against Games proved wrong

August 13, 2006 at 1:11 pm (Games)

Henry Jenkins, who is the director of comparative studies at MIT has conducted a research on Games and myths about them like the message and violence that is target for young audience. And he Debunks eight of those biggest myths, Proving that games are just an excuse used by others who ignored their responsibilities.

  • MarryPoppinsGTAThe myths are about “Youth violence” and article proves by study that 90% of boys play games, then all 90% of these boys should be criminals by now. The fact is that its not the games but lack of good quality life that makes few of them criminals.
  • One myth is accusation of marketing violent games to kids. But 66 percent of the PC games market is rated for age 18 or older. The game industry caters to adult tastes.
Its basically the fault of parents who consider that all games are for kids and buy such games for them, if they adhere to proper guidance provided on the age sticker of the cover then there would be no problem. Problem is not availability of violent stuff, but considering them “kiddish”, by the parents.
  • Regarding the myth of Games as a medium of expression, he quotes “The Sims” designer “Will Wright” who argues that games are perhaps the only medium that allows us to experience guilt over the actions of fictional characters handled by us.
  • And ofcourse my favorite myth is that “Games Isolate people from society”. This is proved worn by the fact that almost 60 percent of frequent gamers play with friends. Thirty-three percent play with siblings and 25 percent play with spouses or parents. Two players may be fighting to death on screen and growing closer as friends off screen.

Well there are many others a total of 8, proven in detail, I just gave few excerpts from the complete article. I do have to agree Games are no Marry Poppins but they aren’t half as bad as other rival media has made them, just to get their share of profits back.

Irani Leader accuses Bush on TV

August 13, 2006 at 12:39 pm (Politics)

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad sat down with Mike Wallace in Tehran on Tuesday in a rare, exclusive interview with a Western reporter, and openly accused Bush of the faults and image Iran has in current world.

“Well, please look at the makeup of the American administration, the behavior of the American administration. See how they talk down to my nation.”

Speaking about President Bush’s failure to answer his 18-page letter that criticized U.S. foreign policy, Ahmadinejad said, “Well, (with the letter) I wanted to open a window towards the light for the president so that he can see that one can look on the world through a different perspective. … We are all free to choose.”
