PS3, 360 keep a Bad Company

August 29, 2006 at 9:27 pm (Console, Games)

The famous Battlefield creators DICE are planning a new spin-off in their Battlefield series called Battlefield: Bad Company. Whats new is that instead of multiplayer the game focuses on solo gameplay around a group of corrupt soldiers. Although the multiplayer options will be there but its main aim will be solid storyline in single player mode for a change.

The game will be released in 2007 on PS3 and Xbox 360.

Recipes based on your inventory

August 29, 2006 at 8:13 pm (Internet)

This site presented a twist on regular recipe/cooking sites. The motto line defines it all:

I made this site because I was tired of having a pantry full of food but no clue what to cook with it

The concept is that you enter the ingredients that you got lying over and based upon your current items the most appropriate recipes are provided to you. Neat!

Call of Duty 3: Reality TV Show

August 29, 2006 at 7:36 pm (Games)

friendlyfireActivision, Spike TV and Best Buy have teamed up to create a boot camp survival reality show. The Game Head Call of Duty 3 Challenge has an open casting call for 16 gamers with “personality, perseverance and gaming skills” to compete for VIP access to Spike TV’s Video Game Awards show, a home entertainment system from Best Buy and a trip for two to Normandy, France.

To apply, create a personal movie up to give minutes long that explains why you should be chosen for the show and send it in by 11:59 p.m. PDT on Sept. 4.

The 16 finalists will be flown to a “top secret military location” where they will play a little Call of Duty 3 and then compete in real-life boot camp challenges. The whole thing will be filmed on location from Sept. 20 through 22 for a later broadcast.

Control Devices through SMS

August 29, 2006 at 2:17 pm (Internet, Mobile)

I was talking to my friend “Zerro.Error” about getting an extra SIM for a spare mobile, which I would permanently connect to my PC. And write some small code through Nokia SDK to read the SMS received and then interpret it to perform some tasks on PC. So, its remote controlling some pre-programmed tasks, or even send command-line commands through SMS rather than Internet. Pretty useful for countries like mine where SMS is very cheap and GPRS is too costly for humane usage.

Then I researched online for any such projects (which would save my time from going through the SDK), but then I found something even cooler. Not exactly a PC controlling SMS thing.. but a separate circuit board, connected to a Sony Ericsson set to control other electronic / electrical devices (upto eight). The site features complete circuit diagrams and detailed instructions for implementing the thing and how the SMS is interpreted from phone’s memory to a command.

85 Tool Swiss Army Knife

August 29, 2006 at 11:58 am (Uncategorized)

Now this is what every “man” needs… but instead of a pocket knife.. u need a “women’s” purse to carry this one around.

It seems like Wenger wants you to do one thing: throw out your old knives. Actually, it wants you to do several things: throw out your bike tools, your toiletries, your laser pointer and so on, because you can find all of these instruments in a huge Swiss Army knife, which includes every tool the company makes. Wenger is calling the contraption “Giant Knife Version 1.0.” It debuted with all 85 features and can perform hundreds of functions.

Who doesn’t need a cigar cutter next to a bicycle chain rivet setter next to a golf divot repair tool? Wenger is on to something with this everyman’s gadget. It wouldn’t be a knife, though, without a blade, so Wenger put seven in the line-up. And it wouldn’t be Swiss Army unless it came with tweezers and a toothpick. (They’re included, too.)

A Team of 12 People prepared this Firefox Crop circle in under 24 hours, showing their alien love for Firefox browser. Since I am a hardcore fan of the browser.. how could I resist not posting about this accomplishment. Just Imagine! A huge crop field shaved to form the Firefox logo to be visible only to people flying above, having a diameter of 220 feet.. now how cool is that.

Mobile Security Tips

August 29, 2006 at 6:57 am (Mobile)

Just wanted to remind to every reader here to always keep your Mobile’s IMEI number in a safe place. And no not in your mobile.. in your desktop PC or any other “real” diary etc. You can use your IMEI number to get your mobile locked incase of theft.
To get your IMEI number, remove the battery of your set and mostly its written on a sticker below the battery location in the set. You can also dial: * # 0 6 # on your set to get this number.

There are few more things you can use to secure your set but rest of them are set specific. e.g. to secure your critical data inside mobile (passwords, credit card info, personal photos and emails etc), you can use third party software like Handy Safe. My set (Nokia E61) also has remote locking feature, so if your set has that do enable it. Using this enables you to SMS to your phone to lock. So, the theif will have to hard-reset your set to use it.. erasing all your critical data automatically.

PUSH based email on regular GPRS phone

August 29, 2006 at 6:24 am (Internet)

The only Blackberry Connect feature as compared to regular GPRS net access, which is useful to me is PUSH based email service. i.e. on GPRS/Regular internet you have to go and check or request to check email on POP/Webmail server.
Compared to thsi on Blackberry devices the server pushes the mail to your handheld device whenever there is a new mail. So, no time and bandwith wasting to goto you mailbox again and again just to find “no new mail”.

What if you want this type of service on regular GPRS? Well there is a solution. SEVEN provides a free of cost service called AlwaysOnMail. Seven’s servers performs the mail checking and incase there is any update the mail will be PUSHed to you using regular GPRS. Many handsets are supported by them (including my Nokia E61. Yippe!) So, save some charges you waste over Email checking and get Blackberry PUSH based email without actually getting a blackberry device or service.
